Attorney Positions:    

Children’s Law Center attorneys are involved in complex dependency court proceedings dealing with multiple parties, complicated issues of fact, expert witnesses, and challenging evidentiary problems.  CLC lawyers develop expertise in procedural law, acquisition of resources and services for children and families, trial advocacy, dispute resolution, and child development.  Active California Bar status is required.

Investigators:

CLC investigators play an integral role in the representation of our clients.  Investigators focus on field work – visiting clients, caregivers, and others in order to assist the attorney on the case.  Duties require documentation of field/visit notes, which may involve the observation of the child’s current living situation, evaluation for needed services, identification of services available in the community, assisting attorneys with client interviews, and attendance at Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, placement staffings, hospital screenings and Regional Center conferences.  Prior experience, bachelor’s or higher degree preferred.

Paralegals:    

CLC Paralegal duties may include preparing subpoenas, motions, briefs, name changes, and legal guardianship papers; amending birth certificates; conducting legal research; and attendance and advocacy during outside court or administrative hearings.  Paralegals may also assume many of the duties outlined above for CLC investigators.

Support Staff: 

Administrative Assistants/Secretaries assist attorneys and staff with general clerical work.  Duties may include but are not limited to preparation and typing of documents and forms, data entry and case management, opening and closing of attorney case files, filing, photocopying, scanning, and telephone coverage.  This position requires basic knowledge of office procedures, office equipment, Microsoft Word, and a minimum of 45 wpm typing ability.  Administrative Assistants/Secretaries must also have good communication skills and the ability to work well with staff. 

Investigator Clerks:  

CLC employs Investigator Clerks to facilitate the work of Investigators.  Duties may include creation of work files, photocopying and assembly of attorney files, filing, scanning documents, boxing and lifting of files, data entry, clerical tasks, typing reports as needed, and delivery of files and mail.

CLC seeks a highly motivated attorney, preferably with trial experience, who is interested in pursuing a career as a juvenile dependency attorney based in Lancaster.
